Brunch at the May Lake trailhead starting at 10:30am. Eric and Steve are our cooks. Menu: Fried potato-polenta, fried eggs, fruit, coffee & Duggan's, mimosas.

Flora: Not much.

Fauna: Douglas Ground Squirrel.

Moon Phase: Waning Gibbous.

Dayhikers: (2) Chistina Phillips, Christine Santos.

Backpackers: (7) Ralph Medema, Steve Fotheringham, Becky Teberg, Jackie & Dave Lederle, Nina Shah & Nick Teberg.

Notes: Steve and I arrived Friday afternoon and secured the campsite at May Lake. Jackie, Dave & Ralph arrived after dark. We had a poor campfire because the area is devoid of firewood. Nick and Nina arrived much later and informed Dave that his dome light was on in his car. Dave awoke early and hiked down to the trailhead to turn off the dome light and to meet Christine and Christina and lead them back to our campsite at 4am. Steve stayed at the campsite while the rest of us hit the trail in the dark. Christina, Nina & Nick, Ralph, Jackie & Dave summited Hoffmann before dawn. Christine & I arrived an hour later. Nick served hot cocoa and cognac at the summit. We lingered at the summit and the plateau because of the perfect morning. Eric drove up from Manteca just to deliver breakfast and had to return. Steve was our cook. Christina and Christine went home. The rest of us picked up firewood along the return trip to May Lake so we had a good campfire Saturday evening. We awoke Sunday morning to light sleet which quickly became snow. It snowed for about 1.5 hours only. Then the wind came up and made it difficult to break camp and pack. They closed Tioga Road to new traffic so we had the road to ourselves.
