 es, no wind.\nTrail head: May Lake at 8800 ft.\nDescription: Moderatel
 y strenuous very early morning hike for the dayhikers to meet the b
 ackpacking group at May Lake at 4am. Summited Hoffmann by dawn. \nSi
 x miles up and back with a 2000 ft elevation change. 1.1 miles to May 
 Lake. 1.9 miles to Hoffmann's summit at 10,800 ft. Summiting required
  some easy bouldering.\nFee: $30 park entrance fee or pass.\nBrunch at
  the May Lake trailhead starting at 10:30am. Eric and Steve are our c
 ooks. Menu: Fried potato-polenta, fried eggs, fruit, coffee & Duggan'

 rrived Friday afternoon and secured the campsite at May Lake. Jackie, 
 Dave & Ralph arrived after dark. We had a poor campfire because the ar
 ea is devoid of firewood. Nick and Nina arrived much later and informe
 d Dave that his dome light was on in his car. Dave awoke early and hik
 ed down to the trailhead to turn off the dome light and to meet Christ
 ine and Christina and lead them back to our campsite at 4am. Steve sta
 yed at the campsite while the rest of us hit the trail in the dark. Ch
 ristina, Nina & Nick, Ralph, Jackie & Dave summited Hoffmann before da
 wn. Christine & I arrived an hour later. Nick served hot cocoa and cog
 nac at the summit. We lingered at the summit and the plateau because o
 f the perfect morning. Eric drove up from Manteca just to deliver brea
 kfast and had to return. Steve was our cook. Christina and Christine w
 ent home. The rest of us picked up firewood along the return trip to M
 ay Lake so we had a good campfire Saturday evening. We awoke Sunday mo
 rning to light sleet which quickly became snow. It snowed for about 1
 .5 hours only. Then the wind came up and made it difficult to break ca
 mp and pack. They closed Tioga Road to new traffic so we had the road
