Trail Head: Gianelli Cabin at the end of Crabtree Road.
Land Status: Emigrant Wilderness/ Stanislaus National Forest.
Mileage: 8.6 miles total, out and back to Chewing Gum Lake.
Elevation: 8600 ft. at the trail head and 9200 ft. at two high points for a 600 ft. elevation change.
Difficulty: Moderate.
Fee: None
Bring the dogs.
Dinner: Trailgate at the trail head.

I was wondering if you can post a link to the map of this trail ( Burst Rock to Chewing gum Lake)? The link took me to REI? On AllTrails, it sounds like a longer hike or not the same length that you listed. I may try this hike still if my knee lets me!
