Weather: Sunny with a high of around 70.
Easy 9-mile out and back with minimal elevation change.
Trail head: The site of Savage's Trading Post, 21 miles east of Mariposa on Hwy 140, just east of the 2006 landslide and detour.
Parking: You're driving eastbound on Hwy 140. Cross the bridge over the South Fork of the Merced River and the parking lot is immediately on your left. We cross the highway to get to our trail head.
Fee: None.
Flora: Indian Pink, Skullcap, Purple Chinese Houses, Twining Snake Lily, Keckiella.
Fauna: A pair of Common Merganser ducks.
Dogs are welcome.
Dinner: Pot luck picnic at the trail head.

Comments: Hite Cove is not really worth hiking to but the rock at the river was unusual and worth seeing and the wildflowers were very good. It was a little warm, but an easy nine miles.

Tom thinks I just rest my back a little while longer since it has been giving me such a hard time. I really want to go on this one too! Dammit -
