Trip Notes - Winnemucca Lake & Round Top Summit

Weather: High of 65 degrees. Chilly on the top of Round Top with the breeze and occasional cloud blocking out the sun.

Description: Moderate 5.2 mile loop from the Woods Lake Campground to Winnemucca Lake, Round Top Lake, and return to the trail head on Lost Cabin Mine Trail. Add 1.6 miles total for the strenuous summit of Round Top.
Trail head elevation: 8230 ft.
Elevation at Round Top Lake: 9375 ft.
Summit elevation: 10,380 ft.
Fees: $5 day use fee.

Flora: Mountain Pride Penstemon, Sierra Daisy, Giant Red Paintbrush, Marsh Marigold, Wooly Sunflower, Sierra Penstemon, California Hespirochiron, Mountain Heather, Sierra Willow, Cushion Phlox, Dana Lupine.

Dinner: Jackie's "Pedro's Special" at the campground.

Comments: Lots of people! Three carloads were late and we had to start without them. The wildflowers were beautiful although about three weeks early for the big display. Nine people summitted Round Top. Jackie's idea for dinner really hit the spot. Corn chips, Jackie's beans, Jackie's shredded chicken or Dave's Recipe sauteed shrimp, Beck's and Barb's guacamole, cheese, sour cream and salsa. There were a fair amount of mosquitoes in the trees. The Villasenors were out from Texas and we got to meet our second youngest hiker, my great-niece, Saela.
