Trip Notes - YNP: Hetch Hetchy

Trail Head:  Campground at Hetch Hetchy Dam

Weather:  82 degrees and sunny.  Breeze in the afternoon.

Fee:  $20 park fee was waived this day.

Elevation:  3728 feet at trailhead, 800 foot gain on trail.

Mileage:  13 miles out and back.

Difficulty:  Moderately strenuous

Fauna:  Black bears, gopher and garter snakes, whiptail and western sagebrush lizards, Canada geese, California ground squirrel, western gray squirrel and a bushtit.

Flora:  Noteworthy flowers:  Sierra Stonecrop, Liveforever, Bridge's Gilia, some type of orchid, Williamson's Clarkia, Arrowroot Balsam, Lupine, Harvest and White Brodiaea.

Dinner:  Potluck at trailhead after hike.

Notes:  Brown bear (actually blonde) and cub sighted by 3 members.  Water flow is way down from last year but the lake is at capacity.
