Photo: Barb & Jeanette at Showers Lake.
Photo Album #131.
Weather: Sunny and in the low seventies.
Trail head: Carson Pass north parking lot at the Meiss Lake trail head; PCT.
Mileage: Moderate 9.6 mile out and back on the PCT. My GPS recorded 10.3 miles. 400 ft elevation change repeated once.
Elevation: 8480 at the trail head. The high point of the hike is 8800 ft. at a Meiss Pass or Carson Gap at the 1.4-mile marker, which divides the American River drainage from the Truckee.
Parking Fee: $5/car.
Flora: Super-tall flowers typical of Carson Pass: Giant Mountain Larkspur, Paintbrush & Lupine. Also new finds like Dusky Horkelia, King's Clover and Oregon Checker Mallow.
Dinner: Build-A-Burrito Bar at our Silver Lake camp site. Plus Mike's pork ribs and the Meredith's Dutch oven cobbler.
Participants: (16) Jackie Lederle, Debbie & Bob Gerhart, George & Tracy Crowley, Doug & Lynda Meredith, Steve Fotheringham, Barb Hayes, Michael Booth, Don Mulcahy, Chuck Flores, Jeanette Farley, Nick, Eric & Becky Teberg. Dave Lederle road his bike about 50 miles instead of hiking.
Canine: Toots, Lucy, Rocky & Jacques.
Comments: Denise & Dave Johnson from Carson City visited the campsite for dinner on Friday night. So great to see Denise doing so well after her recent heart attack. Also, the husbands of long-time hikers Tracy and Debbie finally joined us for the hike. They were fun and I hope they join us again. The food at the campsite, as always, was remarkable, but now Doug and Lynda have introduced Dutch oven baking to the menu.
Comment
Would there be room for a tent camper? Or, are there sites still available? I will check.
