6/12 weather: 57 degrees and partly cloudy after a rain storm. No rain with a 30% forecast.
6/20 weather: About 67 degrees in full sun.
Trail head: The end of Shell Road near Jamestown.
No fees.
Description: Easy 4.5 to 6-mile up and back except for a short, steep 500 ft. incline to the top of Table Mountain.
Carpool and caravan to arrive at 10am.
Features: Geologic wonder of an inverted river, vernal pools, unique plant species, 360 degree views.
Dogs are welcome.
Flora: Indian Clover, Goldfields, Butter 'n' Eggs, Sky Lupine, Sierra Mock Stonecrop, Blue dicks, White-stemmed Filaree.
Fauna: Turkey Vultures, Friendly Horses.
Dinner: Pete's Family Restaurant in Jamestown.
Participants: (20) Jackie & Dave, Monica, Daniel & Wyatt, Sam & Barb, John & Maria, Don & Maria, Patrick, Scott D, High, Connie & Tom, Becky. On 6/20 we added Nick, Steve and Jeanette. On 6/12 several members of the San Joaquin Hikers joined us.
Canine: (2) Jacques & Rocky.
Comments: This hike surprised us. With the rainstorm the night before the vernal creeks were running clear and the waterfalls were flowing. Easy walking on the top among volcanic rocks, green grasses and blankets of wildflowers. Eights days later the water was gone but the grasses were still green and the wildflowers taller.
